Our History

The Orlando Renaissance Writers Guild was formed in 2002 when Ted Hollins and Doretha Fedrick co-founded the organization. They invited friends and lovers of the written word and began meeting at Ted Hollins Photography studio, and later held meetings at the Monthso Book Store. In 2006, After the closing of Monthso, the Guild conducted its monthly meetings at various locations including Gossips Restaurant and then the Orange County Public Library where the Guild meet for many years.

Since its inception the Guild has been a forum for hundreds of authors who have written on many different subjects. It has welcomed numerous aspiring authors and guests. The Guild’s mission has been to increase the number and visibility of authors across Orlando and through the Central Florida region.

In 2008 the Guid instituted its first Annual Banquet, which highlights the accomplishments of Guild members, and identifies an Aughor of the Year. Additionally, the Banquet has been an opportunity to provide funding and scholarships to organizations that promote education and literacy.

Now 14 years young, the Guild plans to continue expanding its scope and depth of its mission using the written word as a means of bringing people together for knowledge, education, understanding and entertainment.
